WHMTY FREE PRESS, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1989, PAGE 33- Rteal estate s'ales down slightly in September Real estate sales figures showed a slight, decrease in September. However this decrease is fairly consistent with last year's activity, according te the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board. September recorded 2 per cent fewer sales than the previous nionth, while the month où September 1988 witnessed a 19 per cent drop in sales for the same period. "Housing prices are very stable, interest rates are constant, and a slight dip in sales figures is pretty well status quo," remarks Dave Tonkin, board president. "One of the biggest components-facing the industry," he adds, is the tremendous increase of stock during the past few months. "There is now a substantial selection of housing stock in most price ranges withîn Durham Region." New listings entering the market have skyrocketed over the summer with 48 per cent more new listings in September 1989 than September 1989. "The large amount of listings tend to keep housing costs in check, exerting a downward pressure on prices," explains Tonkin. Buyers now have 2,581 active listings to choose from, as compared to 1,306 last year.
