The award recognizes youths who have exemplified the p riciples of scouting. through leadership, voluntary service Wo the community and outdoor ekilis. The pathfinder scouts receiving the award were: Jasen Dawson, let Whitby; Chris Peacock and Gordon Archer, 4th Whitbçy; Colin Doughtyp Michael Lawrence and Sean Lawrence, 7th WhitlbY. The ceremony for the Laikeland region, of which Wbitby district is a part, was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Nov. 4. Town crier and former scouter, John Webster of Markhazn, was attired i a brillant red waistcoat to welcome the audience and preface the speakers. Among the dignitaries attending were Rene Soetens, MP for Ontario riding (and a former scouter), Mayor Bob Attersley and provincial commissioner Hugh Robertson of Whitby. Soetens extended to the scouts the official congratulations of the Governnent of Canada and the Chief Scout of Canada, Mme Jeanne Sauve. Attersley met and personally congratulated the Whitby scoute at a reception following tne presentation of the plaques. Provincial commissioner Hugh Robertson mnade the presentation of the plaques and, in bis remarks afterwards, conveyed, the message of "well done" and encouragement of the boys Wo see themselves as "winners,' not only in scouting but in their eveiyday pursuite as well. He thanked the scouters and parents for their encouragement and for being examples of leadership and witness Wo the high ideals which the scouting movement promotes. The pathfinder scouts are entitled Wo wear the chief scoutes badge and continue Wo advance in scouts. The Brooklin-Whitby bantam B team, sponsored by Precision Litho Inc., tonk part in Port Perry's annual tournament last weekend, losing two very close games. The first loss was agamnst Peterborough, 4-3 in overtime, with Mike Brillinger, Clayton Stillar and Scott Jenson scoring for Whitby. In the second game Jamie Olenick scored twice and Stillar once in a 5-3 loss to Uxbridge. Sutton rink wins bonpiel The Phyllis Sutton rink won the Nurse Chevrolet-Oldsmobile ladies bonpiel at the Whitby Curling Club Nov. 9. With skip Sutton was vice Kathy Robbins, second Wanda Coates and lead Marg Bird. Second prize went to the rink of skip Betty Hollinger, vice Muriel Prosser, second- Alyce Kunetsky and lead Carole Smith. Third prize went to the rink of slpEv Bonnetta, vice Lynde R0d, second Ann Sonley and lead !Carolyn Rylett. Winning the one-game high was the rink of skip Joan Nichol- son, vice Jackie Gorecki and second Jane 0'Toole. Whitby wins 6-4 The Whitby Home and Rural novice hockey team apprehended Ajax 6-4 last week for their second win of the season. Whitby's goals were- scored by Danielle Bleau with three, Ellen Johnson *with two, and Michelle Dempsey with a single.
