Mayor Bob Attersley makes the firt official donation to the Goodwill ADC, a trailer which sits between Arby's and the Shell gas station at 1615 Dundas St. E. Thetwo-year agreement covers the period Sept. 1, 1989 to Aug. 31, 1991. Salaries will be in- creased by 6 per cent per year. Maximum salaries for teachers will be $56,838 the first year and $60,24 the second year. The for- mer maximum was $53,621. Teague stresses that the maxi- mum salary goes only to teachers with the "highest quality of work and after 11 years' experience." Under the new contract a sal- ary for a beginning teachers is $27,474 the first year and $29,122 the second. The 1988 contract had the beginning sal- ary at $25,919. The maximum salary for prin- cipals is now $70,370 the first year and $74,592 the second year, compared to $64,500 in the 1988 contract. Teachers will get an extra 20 minutes a week preparation time, bringing the total tiine allotted to 120 minutes. This will be effective Sept. 1, 1990 at an increased cost of $622,782 to the Durham Board of Education. Librarian time will be in- creased to a ratio of one librarian to 475 students compared to the current 1-500 ratio. This, too, is effective Sept. 1, 1990 and will cost the board $131,112. The net increased cost of the settlement to the board will be $5,236,341 (6.1 per cent) in 1989/ 90 and $5,531,678 (6.7 per cent) in 1990/91. The total overall cost increase to the board will be $7,400,540 (8.6 per cent ) in 1989/90 and $8,459,681 (9.1 per cent) in 1990/ 91. These figures are a result of new negotiations and do not in- clude the health plan. Effective Jan. 1, 1990 the Ontario Dental Association sche- dule will be changed to 1989 rates and effective Jan. 1, 1991 they will go to the 1990 rates. Two charged with assault Two Oshawa men have been charged following the early morning assault of six people in Whitby on Saturday. Durham Regional Police say two men broke into a Rosedale Dr. apartment and assaulted the six people that were inside. The victims included two resi- dents of the basement apart- ment, two out-of-town visitors, and two former girlfriends of the attackers. According to police, all six were taken to Whitby General Hospital to be treated for cuts and bruises. An undetermined amount of
