Jason Mitchell from Tam Heather Curling Club won the junior boys (19 and under) bons- piel last weekend. The junior girls (19 and under) was won by Anne McKnight from Uxbridge. Beef bonspiel on weekend Unabie to find a major sponsor after Sun Life dropped support for the annual men's bonspiel that attracted top Ontario rinks, the Whitby Curling Club will instead hold the first Beef Bons- piel Dec. 1, 2 and 3. Organizer Gord Carroll was hoping to attract 24 rinks to the event which wiil have three spon sors. Sorichetti Corjp. was to sponsor the first event, the Johnston Morton Burch & Boland law firrn the second event, and M&M Meats the third event. Awhistleaway The Vick Insurance minor AA rep hockey team was just an early whistie away from reaching the finals this past weekend at the Buffalo Regals minor hockey tournament. Trailing Kitchener 3-0 in the final minute, but needing only a single goal to advance, heart- break struck as the referee's quick whistie nullified Ryan Boyd's rebound goal. They had gotten that far after two sup erb shutout victories over Chinguacousy 5-0 and Buffalo 3-0. Scott -Wylie and Shari Bryksa 'shared.the goaltending while the scoring was led by Matt Jardin's hat trick and Jef Church's two goals, with Marc Lamers, Scott Beegan and Boyd each fired one. Teamwork was very evident as shown by the assists. Barrett Church, Biais Lawson, Sean Haynes, Mike Hamilton and Matt Jardin al had two apiece, with Jamie Gibb, S. Beegan and Boyd getting one each. The other members of the team are Judd Stevenson, Casey Du pont, David Dittmar, Mike Heffering and Jeif Frazer. Coach Jim Heffering, who has been very patient after the team's slow start, was very pieased that the players have started to adjust to his system of hockey. The Whitby major atom AA hockey team brought home the Terry J. Grant Memorial trophy after winning a tournament on Nov. 19 in Amherst, N.Y. Whitby started the tourna- ment by grinding Gouding Park to a 4-0 shutout. Whitby ga came off the sticks of Gavin Prout, Paul Webb, Steven Austin and Derek Suddons. In the next game they took on Unionville, but Whitby just couidn't get the momentum going. Numerous scoring oppýor- tunities were foiled in the closing minutes of the game, resulting in a 4-3 ioss. The Anderson-Donevan game was a lot dloser than the score showed, Anderson losing due to a few mental errors in a game in which they went toe to toe with Donevan in every aspect.
