The e Toùp includes thie- Ontario vincial Police, Metro Toronto Police, Durham, Peel and York* Regional Polioe. While the RIDE program operates year-round in an effort; to reduce drinking and driving, this joint initiative serves to strengthen the canipaign at this timé of year. During. last year's, six-week campaign, 316,361 vehicles were ihecked i the Greater Toronto Area, resuzlting i 445 alcohol related charges and 1,179 12-hotur licence sspnsions. During tis yearls four-and-a-half-week effort, which runs from Dec. 1, 1989 through Jan. 1, 1990, the participating forces hope to check a proportionately greater number of vehicles, and lay fewer charges. During the month of December 1988, 26 people were killed in 26 separate accidents i the Greater Toronto Area. Approimately 40 per cent of fatal accidents involve alcohol. By Sgt. Sandy Ryrie Durham Regional Police Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police are asking for the public's help in solving an armed robbery which occurred in Ajax on Nov. 14. At about 11:40 p.m. two men went into the Burger King Restaurant at 345 Mackenzie Ave. in Ajax. They spoke to the assistant manager, asking for job applications. They then jumped over the counter and one of thern puiied a gun as he did so. They forced the employees to give them cash from the tilis. They also took the assistant manager and attempted to get him to open the safe. They beat him with a broken broom handie but the employee was unable to open it, as he didn't have the combination. Eventualiy they ieft the store running out the back door. The bandits are described as: -white maie, about 5,10", medium build, between 20 and 25 years old, brown collar length hair, a few days' stubble and face pitted and pockmocked. He was wearing a Iight colored coat, blue jeans and black boots. -white maie, about 5S8", 18 or 19 years oid, thin with brown hair and dlean shaven, weaing jeans and a blue jacket. A re-enactinent of this robbery wilI be shown on CITY-TV on Thursday, Dec. 14 during the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news. It wil aiso be shown on CHEX-TV and CKVR-TV on Friday, Dec. 15, again during the news and over the weekend. Crime Stoppers is asking for any one with any information on these suspects to cail.
