Pr. photo' Development upon servicing The Town of Whitby's official plan will be amended so that appropriate development can proceed once full municipal ser- vices are extended to Brooklin's urban area. Regional council approved the motion for the amendment ini ordefr to resolve the land use designation of the special study area within the Brooklin urban area and to permit a residential develIopment with flli municipal services. The lands invoived are located on the east side of Anderson St, South of Winchester Rd. in Brooklin, a total of approx. mateiy 6.2 hectares. In Durham Region's officiai plan, this area is designated resi- dentiai. This is a special study area ini Brooklin's seéondary plan and is being further studied to determie appropriate land uses. The area has been reviewed and found appropriate for medium density residential to facilitate a residential retirernent project. The lande cannot be deveioped until full municipal services are extended to the Brooklin urban area. The winners of Group 74's first Festival of Lights contest were announced at the Old Tyme Christmas celebration in Brooklin on Sunday evening, Dec. 17. Accompanied by members frorn Croup 74,- judging was dlone by Jim French, Shirley French and Berniece Adams of West Hill on the evening of Dec. 13. The judges were impressed by the wonderful effort put into the displays. The power black-outs experienced in the area during the judging were quite untimely for a light contest, but when the scores were finally tallied by candlelight, the judges were ail in agreement. First place in the residential category went to Roger and Mary Ann Shingler, with two honorable mention prizes going to William F. Batty and Neil and Wendy Petch. First place commercial was won by the Brooklin Village Shoppe. Other farnilies and businesses that entered were the L. Barnards, D. Borgals, C. Disneys, C. MacKinnon, L. and 0. Middleton, P. Matthews, Willets and the K. Worsieys; Cedarbrook Flowers, Country Charm Decor, Country Heirloorns and Oshawa Garden Service. Group 74 encourages residents to take time to visit the Brooklin area for an enjoyable tour of Christmas displays. Group 74 says there were beautifully decorated homes that should have entered. This group is looking forward to many more participants next year, with personal entries as well as nominations being accepted. A boy narned Rob who didn't- belive in Santa Claus, wanted to prove themn wrong. That night, Rob got sorne film out of a cupboard, and bis father's movie camera. He was going to film Santa when ha carne to deliver the presents that night. Rob set up th movie camera to film Santa, then he bid behind a chair close to the Christmas tree. An hour went'by. Rob was so tired that he fell asleep. Rob woke up because he heard a noise on the roof. He went to get a drink of water and when he returned he bid back behind the chair and waited for Santa. Five minutes went by. Then, suddenly, he heard a thump near the fireplace. He slowly looked over the chair, and what did he see? An old littie man with a long white beard dressed in red. Rob watched him put presents under the tree and I the stockings with goodies and treats. Then he watched Santa fly away in his sleigh. He stayed at the window the whole night just staring.
