The league will begin in Janu- ary of 1991. There is a $20,000 franchise fee which must be paid by Dec. 1 1990 to bein the 1991 season. 'iEe other three inter- ested teams are Buffalo, Brant- ford and Peterborough. ThMe only problem Durham faces is whether to play at Iro- quois Park or the Oshawa Civic. Also, due to the season, a floor of some type must bo picked to cover the ice. In Bowmanville, a carpet, costing-. $100,000, was purchased to covers the ice. Another option is aà plywood floor, at a cost from $30000 ta $40,000, and 'this floor can be used for various activities such as concerts, plays or other large crowd gatheringa. The U.S. bas operated a box lacrosse league for the last four years and draws minimum crowds of 9,000 people. This is one of the reasons local lacrosse enthusiasts became interested in starting their own league. There might be tournaments against the U.S. league in the future. Lacrosse looks ta be one of the up and coming sports of the 1990s. Canada was once invoived in a lege with the U.S. in the 197-0s. Canadien teame included cities such as Quebec, Montreel and Toronto, who went up afainst teams from ecross the Whitby house league hockey NEmwE Der. 10 Checker's var. Wone Woodman 4 J.
