Soetens to discuss GST Rene Soetens, MP for Ontario riding, will discuss the proposed goods and 'services tax at the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce breakfast seminar on Jan. il. Soetens, first' elected ta the Hanse of Commons in 1988, is a meniber of the Standing Committee on Finance and the Standing Comniittee on Energy, Mines and Resources. On Jan. 1, 1991 the goods and services tax (GST) is slated ta be implemented. While the government is prepared ta keep its schedule, it was the job of the Standing Comniittee on Finance ta propose possible axnendrnents ta the workings of the GST, of which several were adopted including the 7 per cent rate. As a member of the Finance Committee, Soetens bas met with citizen groups, organizations and individuals from across Canada who are concerned with the impact Qf the GST on Canadians. The seminar will take place at the Oshawa Golf Club, 7:30 ta 9 a.m. Soetens will present an overview of the GST and will be available te diseuse and answer any questions on the implementation of the tex.
