"The report gives us a source of information on numbers, types and circumstances of hockey injuries," Black said. 'We now have the foundation to develop a comprehensive safety strategy te reduce these injuries in Ontario." The study indicates that injury rates vary with age. They are lowest in the younger age levels, increase with age and peak in the colleges and universities before dedlining in the recreational and oldtimer leagues. Injury rates are significantly higher for teams in contact leagues than in non-contact leagues, as 25 per cent of al injuries were incurred by bodychecking. Equipinent failure was involved in 22 per cent of the injuries.
