BACK A .FIGHTER WITH IEASTER SEALS For 7400 children with physical disabilities living in Ontario, March means more, than Easter eggs and bunnies. It is the month that over 80million Easter Seals are mailed to 3.5 million households ail over the province to raise funds for Easter Seal services that help the youngsters live fuller, more independent lives. The 1990 target is $4.5-million. Ontarians have helped physically disabled, children in their province since 1922. Neyer* before has their support been critical. We are entering 1990 with a deficit, and dilemma. A recent provincial study of services for children with , physical disabilities showed that those provided by Easter Seals are unique. Our programs are critical to the financial, emotional and physical well-being of the families we help, there is nowhere else for them to turn; any cut back of our programns would be de vastating. There are urgent clemands for further services like respite care, additional camping places, and preschool consulting to schools around Ontario. We can only provide these through increased public. support. Governmelnt provides only 4%/1 of our funding, the rest of our $14.5-million annual budget is covered by individual and corporate donations. The money helps provide direct consultative services in the- home by, registered nurses; five residential sumnmer camps; diagnostic clinics in Northern Ontario; financial assistance for equipment, treatment and transportation; parent/family support groups;' augmentative communication programrs; preschool and rehabilitation research grants. These are not luxuries, but the basic necessities of life for the children and families Easter Seal helps. Raising voluntary dollars is increasingly difficult. People may not reaiize it, but theirdonation really does make an incredible difference. When you respond to the Easter Seal campaign you give physically disabled kids the tools they need to be the best they can possibly be; kids who love, laugh, play, learn, explore and create, like ail youngsters.'AIl they need is for people t open their hearts and terwallets.
