The report, -presented at the meetig ofr Town's panning and development comntte., on Mn day, found that chioride, nitrate and batei levels in maqny e were above Ministry of' Environ- ment standards. The most vuinerable wells are shallow dug or bored welle. The study found water ini 97 per oent of these. wells to be at least one parameter above the Provincial, Drinkin g Water' Objective. (DWO)'. The study, made by Morrison Beatty L-mited, found several contaminating sources for Ash- burn wefle. These included septic systems, agiutural practices, road salt- ing, poor wefl consi;ction, and inappropriate wel1 and tile' field locations. 'The study will be sent te, the provincial Ministry of the ýEnvironment, which will decide whether Ashburn is eliible for a igrant for an engineering solu- tions study. An engineering solutions study would examine ahl private wells in Ashburn. The study would look at possible solutions and csts to the contamination pro- blem. The resuits would them be put before the Town and the residents of Ashburn. Councillor Joe Drumm said he was concerned aboutý how long it would be before actio would be baken te solve the well problems ini Ashburn.
