As a young man in Glasgow, Scotland,, Buckley had worked at a shipyard as repairman. "Ships have always beben a part of me. Since hnvngbre, I thought this was a unique way of reniembern=hn," says Bucloy. Rther than use kits of pre-fabricated parts to make bis ship models, Buckley starts right from scratch with his own materials. Starting with a piece of wood, Buckley First shajpes it with a knife and thon carves pieces to add detail. Ho makes tiny wire hinges and thon makes sails from material of different colors, usüualy red, green, blue and white. When the boat parts are completed and assembled, Buckley begins work ithe bottie. The inside of the bottie is aited green, blue and white, to provide soenery and setting for the ship. Glue is thon poured nito the bottom of the bottle.
