Ontario environmient rninistry spokesman Frank Reinhoîz said there are no immediate plans to remove securty guards posted at Art's Auto Wreckers since March. Reinhoiz said the guards will remain until proposed changes to the Ontario Fire Code are appro- ved. Aong with recently approved changes to the Environmental Protection Act, this will allow ministry officials te determine the amount of security required, said Reinholz. "Once those things are in place the ministry will re-evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, the amnount of security we must provide.» Art's was one of nine Ontario sites that ha&_ round-the-clock securityguards posted by. the gvernmeênt'to prevent thepyossi- biliWy of another Hagreslle tire fire dlisaster. In addition to the sterage gui- delines, the regulations also allow. the governnient to go in and dlean up dumps where the owner refuses to do so, even if the owner attempts to fight a dlean-up order in court. The gverninent had initially plannedto recover the cost of security guards from the dump owners. But Reinhoîz said no fi4rther action has been taken on that front.
