The high-fiying forwards and a stonewall defence on the Whitby team held Ajax to only three shots on Tommy Lawson in the Whitbhy net while Whitby buried the Ajax goales with 43 shots on goal. Whitby outscored Ajax 12 - 0 with Bryan'Crouch getting the bat- trick. Strong offence was shown by Darryl Lewis, Mike On Sept. 13 the Whitby Minor Lacrosse Association held its annual awards banquet, a fltting end te one of the best lacrosse seasons in Whitby's bistory. This year Whitby produced three A level chanipionship teains - the tykes, wbo went unbeaten for the entire season, novices and peewees. The banquet started off witb addresses from two members of the Brookin* Redmen major leacrosse teaxu. They gave the minor players some valuable insight inte the opportunities that eist in lacrosse today, includling schlarships and the chance te, play in profesional leagues botb in the United States and Canada. This is in addition te the opportunities in junior and senior lacrosse that bave eisted for mauy years. Incoming president Dave Edgar gave out individual awards te teains. Each teain selects five players who best exempliIfr the important aspects of the gaine including most valuable playerE (MPV), Most sportsmantike player (MSP), uxost improved player (MI?), rucet defensive player (MDP), and Mr. Personality (MP). Wihitby again showed the superioity of a full teamn effort by outshooting Summits 32 - 8. It was an easy gaine for the Whitby crew and a second shutout for Lawson. This win allowed Whitby to advanoe te the semi-finals. In the semi-final gaine, WVhitby defeated Streetsville AA tearn 6 - 4, in a terriflc contest. Both teams played as though it was the championship gaine. Whitby received twice as xnany penalties, and onlY Super goaltending by Evans in net and the defensive unit of Campbell, Ricica, Kerr, Bryant and Gilmore prevented Streetaville from taking control. The offenoe, speaheaded by Hotchkiss and }Iaynes <both getting the bat trick), gathered itself te get the goals when they counted. Streetsville outahot Whitby 20 - 16. In the championship game, Whitby shut out Mississauga Terriers AA 3- 0. Prom the drop. of the puck for the first face-off, this was a real championship game. The Terriers carried the gamne to Wihitby, tra-ding shots on goal 4 - 4 -in the first period. Terriers p ut on the pressure, checking, skating and passing, but it was Vinent, assisted by Crouch, who broke the deadlock by scoring Whitby's flrst goal.
