Ini the flrst gaine against East York, Whitby dominated, winning easily 7 - 1. Paul Dillon and Derek Young each scored twice with singles added by Craig Talent, Andre Marois and Paul Brooks. Assists went to Dillon, Brooks, Young, Talent, Brian McRobert, Mike Wye, Chris Arges and Brad Lee. In the second gaine, Whitby won 6 - 1 over Mississauga Terriers. Goals were scored by Dillon, Marois, ]Brooks, Wye, Myles Woodman and Gavin Taclcney. Whitby's flrst defeat came against the Mississauga Jets in the third game, the score 5 - 1. Whitby's only goal was scored by Dillon, on assista bv Wye and Brooks. After the third game loss, Whitby camne back strong and overpowered the Milton team in the semi-finals 8 - 1. Marois had a great game, scoing four goals while Tackney had two and Mark Vanderllp and Mike Hogan each added singles. This set up the rexnatch against Mississauga Jets. The Jets were victorious though Whitby played an excellent gaine. In the 4 - 3 loss, Dillon, Brooks and McRobert each scored on assists from Young, -Vanderlip, Talent and Wye. Fast start for minor novice team Although it's early in the minor novice hockey season, bragging rights for Durham Region currently belong to the Whitby teamn with its two victories over Ajax and Pickering. Their first gaine of the season was a 5 - 0 win over Ajax. Ajax gave their 'best effort, but WItby's defensive wall and overpowering offence proved too much. Whitby outshot the opposition 38 - 8, with scoring from Bobby McBride (two goals), Kyle Wailes and David Morasse with one ga and one assist each, Blaine Down two assists, Jay Harrison one goal, and single assists froin Michael Konieczny, Ian Gaywood a-nd Jeff razer. The Pickering tearu proved to be much tougher competition, ,with Whitby eking out a 3 -2 win. This was the first league contest for Whitby and the win follows an undefeated exhibition season. Winning their first exhibition gaine, 9 - 3 against Markham, the team showed what they can accomplish when they work hard. Scoring two goals each were Brett MacRury and John Huether, along with singles from Paul Chomnobay, Ryan McArthur, Matt Foran, Evan Cardwell and Justin Terry. Having two assista each were Shane Neil, Neil MacDonald, Saniry Scheepers and Derek Ackford. Single assists went to Chornobay, Jason Hunter, McArthur,- ForanÎ,. - Cardwell,., quether and Terry. In their next gaine against Ajax, great stops from goaltenders Scott Wylie and Phillip Greenen helped Whitby win 4 -3.
