Jobs that volunteers perform during their two- te four-hour shifts include feeding patients, reading te them, writing letters for them, piayinggXames and, of course, makiÎng beds. Graduation for Young volunteers It's -lots of fun,» suas Kristen Miller, an AndersonCV student- and Volunteen. It's not t a one-way street, the kids h ave almoat as much fun as thé patients do. «You meet intcresting people and hear ail kinds of steries.» Volunteens are available al around the hospital, but somo like te stay on one floor and spend up to a haif an hour with each patient. The volunteers have a mini- mum of eight hours of volunteer- ing per mionth, but some volun- teers.spend much more than that of their time. In fact, last year the anount of total hours, combined by the Volunteens was 2,000.. Volunteers are girls and boys ages 14 Ite 18. "They're no longer called cari- dystripers,» says Erika Chap- man, leader of t he Volunteens. Tosuit the naine change uniformé have been adaptc froin the traditional skirts tea polo shirt and pants.
