t 't Resi*dents worried* about'future Region headquarters builIding By MLfke Kowalaki Area residents have been assured that a new Durham Region headquarters will comple- ment thefr neighbourhood. Councillor Joe Drummi made, this commitment last week ta homeowners worried about plans for Whitby's portion of a new regianal gvrmenttacility. Drumm's promise came during a public meeting before Towni ccl's planning and develop- ment committee. Durham Region has applied for a rezoning of a 4.12-acre site at the southwest corner of Gar- den St. and Bassett Blvd. The property, located behind the ýexisting regional headquar- tors on Rossland Rd., now carnies a development zone designation which is essentially a <holding zone category. The Region wants it zaned institutional ta prmit possible expansion of the Rosland build- ~atyear Durham Region cauncil voted ta build twonew facilities for its headquarters, one in Whitby and the other in Oshawa.
