However, in reviewing their answers, I find littie to cheer about. There are plenty of vague, general answers where the ques- tions were quite speciflo. Some candidates showed only a superficial grasp of key is- sues. Some, 4uite openly adniitted that when they got elected they would have to research the issues. I can't imagine why they're rurmning. A few candidates, mostly incumbents, directed their answers to me rather than to the electors at large. As regular readers of this paper know, I have written exten- sively on municipal issues and it is a sad fact that my views are far betterý known SEE PAGE 26 T IF YO UVE REA D THIS: Lynda Buffett (199 1) Tom'Edwards (1983) Gerry Emm (19 87) THEN CONSIDER THIS: Con trary to published statements it TOM EDWARDS (flot Gerry Emm) introduced the motion to adopt the TAX INCREASE of 7.9%ff (Reference By-Iaw No. 2172-87 - March 5, 1987) NO W CONSIDER THIS: Local Increase 3.4 3.4 7.9 Rural Increase 4.8 2.8 8.2 14as 2128 dy-Iaw to levy txsio h er18 o h ups 1987" dIepen ~ RESwith tii. readn or a the DuyCOle ian go that tI l saine b.
