In keeping with a ýtradition menibers of the Whitby 'Tigers Running Club will beý crng a torch through the streets in Downtowni Whitby on Friday, June 26. .The Witb Tgers Runni*ng Club began in 1983 and has membr from ail over Drhama Region. The club provides a focal point for runners of ail abilities, and running distances, to corne together for training and socal reasons. Club niembers range in age from their early teens to their sixties, with only the majority being in their thirties and forties. The club holda events weekly. there are long runs on Sunday mornings, track sessions on Thursdays and a new runners' progrr on Wednesdays. Annually, the club organizes two local road races. Many of the club menibers race competitively year round at all distances, from track events to -the marathon and ýbeyond. The torch procession will begin at 10 p.m. at Brock and Ontario streets, and will proceed northward to John St. Prom there, the runners will turn onto Byron St. and will travel along Dundas St. to the Beaver Lumber parking lot at Hlickory St. A special ceremony will take place at this time. Members of the community are encouraged to bring along flashlights and line the streets to lend their support to the torch-bearers. Prior to the event, several merchants will have extended shopping hours. Stop in and fil out a ballot for a chance to win a trip for two to Montreal or Ottawa. Ottawa presents the visiter with the impression of graceful architecture. Among the fine, stately buildings, parklands and rivers, you can discover the hospitality of a city that blends two cultures harmoniously - a unique Canadian capital. The prize, which includes two airline tickets to and from Buttonville and Montreal or Ottawa and hotel accommodations up ta $250, has been provided, courtesy of Canadian Airline Partner and the Whitby Downtawn Business Improvement Area.
