The DYSSA championships3 cap ped outstanding seasons or bot h teams. Anderson's junior team, led by standout Dan; Bainard, lost only one game this season. Anderson defeated Aurora 15-7 and 15-11 in the DYSSA final Nov. 18. Anderson defeated O'Neill in the LOSSA final 15-9 and 15-12. The juniors won four tourna- ments, defeating Clarke High School (Town of Newcastle) in the finals of three tournaments, one in Brighton and two at Clarke, and winning another in Port Perryl. hseaows The onlyls ti eao a to Clarke in the final of a tourna- ment at Dunbarton High School. Anderson's midget team also won four tournaments -- at Anderson, Dunbarton, Durham College and Port Perry -- and lost to Bowmanville in the final of another tournament at O'Neill. Anderson and Dunbarton were the top two teams in regular season play, and Dunbarton beat Anderson in the LOSSA final, with scores of 15-5 for Anderson, and 16-14 and 15-3 for Dunbar- ton. But when both teams comn- peted at DYSSA, Anderson won the semi-finai with easy 15-2 and 15-2 wins over Dunbarton, before defeating O'Neill 18-16 and 15-9 in the final. Kingston is currently in first place in the eastern league. Whitby appeared te have things in hand, leacling 4-2. Howover a couple letdowns allowed K(ingston te corne back and tie the gaine. Whià tby went on te win the game 6-5. Goal scorers for Whitby were Craig Talent, Sandy Cohen, Paul Dillon, Derek Young, Mark Babony and Scott MacDonell. Whitby then met Central Ontario Wolves in the second game, and, due te very close oficiating, neither teain could get any momentuin going. This game ended in a 3-3 tie. Goal-scorers for Whitby were Jeremy Schott, Young and MacDoneli. Ia the third game, Whitby met undefeated Ottawa and won the game 3-1. Ottawa was ne match for the high-flying Whitby squad. In the championship game for the gold, Whitby was in tough against a Cornwall teain that scored in the first 10 seconds. This year the players are learning that their opposition want te knock Whitby from their roost -- it's beat the champ night each and every game eut. After a rocky start and on-again, off-again performances, last year's champs are showing their stuff. The teamn seems te have arrived since their five-gamne sweep at the Caledon Tournament of Champs. The past weekend Wihitby extended their winning streak with wins of 7-4 win over Port Perry, 7-3 over Ajax (AA) and 5-0 over Uxbridge. Whitby was a finalist in both their earlier tournaments in Hamilton and Sudbudy and made no mistakes this turne as they started the tournament with an j.l-O win over Oakville. Jason Hotchkiss made most of the noise as he combined a hat trick with four assists. Bryan Crouch also .counted three goals while Steven Death had a.single goal with three assists. Mark Haynes had a pair of goals and one assist and Darryl Lewis one of each. Matt Capson and Dan Ricica each contributed two assists whÎle David Parquharson rounded off the scoring with a single goal. Strong defensive efforts were offered by Mike Cartwiight, Luke McKay, Adamn MacCarl, Don Campbell and Justin Collins te assist Tom Lawson in securin g his shutout. Hotchkiss was awarded gaine MVP for his outstanding play. The Makstcel machine just kept rolling along in gaine twoc when Josh Evans backstopped Whitby te a 9-3 victory over Nepeaii. Lewis garnished MVP honours for bis two goals and tireless fore- and back-checking while Capson and Collins contributed single goals and assists each. Death notched a single goal while Campbell, Haynès, MÎ4Carl and McKay had one assist edch. 5 Gamne three was a matchup1 against the Cumberland Baronsc who had previously beat Whitby in the Hamilton tournament. Once again Cumberland preserved te hand Whitby a 3-2 setback. Lewis matched Death's output while Capson had a goal and an assist. Haynes and Crouch counted a single goal each while Cartwright and Ricica had single helpers. Gatineau acted as the epponents for the final and despite dirty tactics, Whitby preserved for a 3-1 championship win. Lawson was awarded MVP for bis goaltending display whiie coach Bucky Crouch gave praise te Farquharson for bis dominant play at forward. Hotchkiss produced two more 'goals and an assist whiie Collins contributed one and two helpers. Crouch and Capson each had two assists with a single off the stick of Haynes. On Nov. 17, York-Simcoe wasý set back 5-4 off a pair of goals each by Haynes and Hlotchkiss and a single by Death. Assists went te Crouch (3), Lewis, Cartwright, Capson, Death and Hotchkiss. Markham battled but fell 3-2 te the Maksteelers on Nov. 19. Capson had a pair of goals while Crouch had one plus an assist. Death had two helpers with a single frein Farquharson and Hotchkiss. In a return matchup, Evans stejped 15 shots to pick up a 12 shùtout win. Once again Hotchkiss notched two goals and one assist with the balance of scering as follows: Crouch, three assisté; Haynes, a goal and an assist; Lewis, a goal; Ricica, one assist; Farquharson one assist and Death one assist.
