Whitby scorod the winning goal with 18 seconds left in the game, as Bryan Rourke redirected a blast by Mark Cipparone. Also assisting was Morasse. Dfensemen Rya Mondes and Ryan Harris were in top form. Came two pitted Whitby ainst last season's rival Ajax. Play in the first period saw Bennie Scheepers score on a groat two-on-one feed by Kyle Ruttan. Also assisting was Gary Kitamura. In the second period, Morasse scorod a short-handed niarker unassistod, as Whitby Illod off a fiv-minute major penalty. Ajax scorod early in -the third, roducing the Whitby lead te one goal. Great defensive play by Luke Harden and Chris Trinkunas helped goalie Michael Thornton shut Ajax down as the game wound down. The final score was Whitby 2, Ajax 1. In gaine throe Whitby met a new opponent, Markharn A (#1). The Witby club rose te the RINrGETTE Bunies stilll unbeaten Whitby's bunnios #2P sponsored by Pringle Creek IGA, posted two more wins in recent ringotte action. The teamn pulled out a last minute victory over a strong bunnies #1. Whitby Kailey Mfiller scored hier fourth and fifth goals of the gaine with less than two minutes te play te secure a 7-5 win. Bunniies #1 held a 5-4 lead ontering inte the final period. Karen McWilliams scored early in the third te tie the gaine which set the stage for Mller's heroice. Miller scored five goals and McWilliams two te handie the goal scoring while assists were givon te Joanna Tellis (two), Karly Simpson, Kathryn Prait and Elaine St. Onge. Tracy Kotarba notched the win in nets. Scoring for Whitby's bunnios #1 were Nancy England (three), Susan Crabb and Jessica Templeton. Racheal Jimmo recorded three assists and Emily Mountjoy a single. In other action Whitby's #2 bunnies scored 10 unanswered goals in the third period on route to a 16-5 pounding over Ajax. McWilliams and Muiler agamn led the scoring with four goals and two assists each. Other scorers were Prait (two goals, two assists), Tellis (a goal, two assists), Corie Horwood ( a goal, an assist), St. Onge (two goals, one assist), Simpson (a goal) and Kotarba (a goal). Weston's top playor thon scored midway through the second period before drawing a five-minute major and an ejection from the game. Whitby was unable te score duing the power play, and went into the third period down 3-1. Midway through the third, during a four-on-four situation, Ruttan scored, assisted by Kitamura, and brought Whitby te within one goal. Dospite outshooting the Weston club 6-0 in the period, and going with an extra attackor for the last minute of play, Whitby could not score the tying goal. Mendes and Harden played well on defence, keeping the Weston offence to a minimum threat. Whitby coach Doug Rourke was disappointed as the eventual tournarnent winner was Ajax -- defeated by Wihitby earlior in the tournamxent. Pamela Steeves was second and Nicky Whitehead third in the 107-110 lb. class at a tourna- ment in Fergus recently. Kaveh Vakil-Zad was third in the 120-1b. class, for grade 9 and 10 students, at the Pine Ridge tournament. Aaron Wickett was fourth in the 175 lb. opeon class and Jef Petican was fourth in the open heavyweight class of the same tournament. For the hoys the provincials will ho held Fe . 6 in St. Cath- arines. A hi gh school tournamont will ho held -Feb. il in Campbell- ford, the Lake Ontario Secondary School Association (LOSSA) com- p etition will ho on Feb. 19 at Pine Ridge high school in Picker- ing.
