Se says Whitby Free Press publisher Deug Anderson. Last week Anderson gave a serinar te, a group of 12 small business people on the subject 'Marketing your Business." The Free Press hopes te hold the seminar on a regular basis and the next one bas been scheduled for Wednesday, May 5. Most of the participants at last Wednesday's seminar said that they would recommend it te, other businesses. Anderson stresses that this is net a sales session nor is it a "kneck the cempetitien" session. Ho believes that, armed with good marketing skifls, small busi- nesses multiply their chances ef success immeasurably, and if they succeed thon.- newspapers like The Free Press will got more* advertising and everybody wins. Anderson rocognizes that most business people are cynical about advertising sales pitches and has structured. the seminar on a "ecan't lose" basis. Net only is the semina.r free but a light buffet supper is also provided. The seminars are being held at Jackson's Teuch of Class Ban- quet Hall in Whitby. Numbers will be kept small and reserva- THE REGIONAL I MUNICIPAL"TYOF DURHAM DDDPUBLIC NOTICE DURHAM REGION IN TH-E MATTER 0F THE MUNICIPAL ACT TAKE NOTICE THAT ho Council of the Regionai Municipality of Durham may pass by-laws authorizing construction of (ho following projecs: Road No. Road Name Munlcîpallty 2 Simcoe St. Scugog Sicet.frmVEdadD.o Lome St. Port Perry. Dozons have lest their life savings or even their homes. Anderson feels that mest of theseý businesses had good ideas - they just lacked customers - and marketing is the skill tbey needed te attract those eus- tomers. Tho seminar takes a stop by step approach te develeping a marketing plan for any business. Every business is unique and participants are encouraged te reognize their strengtbs and capitalize on them. At some point in the future the seminar may be modified for people thinking of opening up new businesses. Any business which wants te register for the May 5 seminar should caîl 668-6111 or talk te their advertising representative.
