Whitby played in the Mark- ham invitational taurnament over the weekend. Whitby opened with a 1-0 loss ta Barrie then rebounded with a 2-1 win over Quinte and tied Detroit Compuware 1-1 in the final game of round-robin pla>'. Whitby and Detroit were' tied for the second and final playoff berth of the tournament but Whitby was eliminated as a resuit of Detroit having scored more goals -- the tie-breaking procedure used. The Whitby tea= hadi previously won a tournament in Detroit, advanced to the final of a tournsznient in Brantford and reached the semi-finals of both the Whitby silver stick tournent and a tournamnent in Kfitchener. In of-ce activity, the Whitby team sponsored a family through the Salvation Army at Christ- mas, and helped with a fundrais- ing event in February. Th at event saw the Whitby tearo contribute to a local food bank and take the Stanley Cup ta Whitby General Hospital patients. BMaine Down won the Esso Medal of Achievernent as the team's most valuable player dur- ing the year. Other medals of achievement went ta Staphane Linklater as most improved player and Robert Lalonde as most sportsmanlike player. Starting the PlayofTs against Oshawa, Whitby played hard but lost a close game, 5-4. The next game against an improved Markham teain wasaa defensive battle, but Whitby prevailed 2-0. In the next game against Ajax, Whitby won easily 9-3. Whitby thon outscored Pickering 9-3. In the final against their rivais from Oshawa, the game wasasction-packed. Whitby won Scoring for Whitby in the playoffs were Natalie Babony with il goals and five assists, Bonnie Chant six goals and five assists, Krista Mueler five goals and five assisas, Cheryl Feret four goals and six assista, Emily Lebel two goals, three assists, Emily Sand two goals and two assista, Kerry Rodrigues two goals and one assist, and bisa Padclison and Meaghan Cloutier with three assisaseach.
