'A Case for Durhamn Region' won best of class, and best of show in its budget cate gory at the American Economic Development Council conference in Quebec City. Patrick Olive, Durham cern- missioner of ecenomic develop- ment, said it was a "great- honour» to win best of show in the competition that involved 1,000 entries from ail over North America. Three other Durham entries, a 'Shop Durham' radio ad cam- paign and two tourism entries, also won best of class awards. The tourism entries were the 1993 tourist guidebook and the 'Seeing is Believing' tourism video. Durham also received an honourable mention for 'A Cern- munity and its People,' a general purpose viewbook, and an excel- lence award for the 'Joint Ven- ture Opportunities' diskette. DuPont recently donated a 6,000 cheque te, the schoel, as part of a new safety program ntiated to promote safety awareness and accident preven- tion in the science and techno- logy departments. DuPent Canada Inc. has an excellent and enviable safety record. The 4,000 employees of tec pany have gene two con- secutive years withoutletim due te work-related injury or illness. In June, the Whitby site's 337 employees will be celebrating their sixth consecutive year with- eut lese of time due te work- related injury or iliness. Bon Ennis, vice principal at Henry, says the school will use the meney tewards new safety goggles, aprons, safety videos, a new acid storage cabinet, exhaust connecters for the tech- nology classes, and an eyewash station for the science lab. Ennis has been involved with the learning link program with DuPent for four t five years. According te Ennis, some of the equipment will be purchased right away, and ail of the new equipment will be in place for the new scheel year.
