The contest was not te pick the best, or most popular nurse, but te, show appreciaton for the nurses and the job they do. The five' inners were regis- tered nurses Brenda Murray Fran Fawcett, Gale Lalonde and Joyoe Coward, and regi stered hursing assistant Linda Hilie. Murray has been a nurse since 1965. She has a wide range of experience, having worked et Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Miserecordia Hospital in Edmon- ton, Aita., and Whitby Generai Hospital. Murray has been working at Whitby General for 20 years. She works in a ward where many things go on at once, such as surge and pediatrics. It is aise an IC ward. Murray thinks that the best part of her job is teaching cor- onary care. She has a husband and four daughters. Hille and hier family live in Whitby. She has practised in Kitchener Scar- beogOshawa and Whitby. Fawcett bas been et the Whitby Generai Hospital for 16 years. Fawcett works as a nurse in the operating room, and she says that since she is a people person she finds that her job is a geod way of meeting people. Coward has been a nurse for uquite a few ears"p, and she has been at the Whitby General Hos- pital since 1984. She works in the continuing care unit. She believes that nurs- ing is a mission, and she likes interacting with people. Coward graduatod from scheol in England. She and her family live in Ajax. Llonde has been a registered nurse for 31 years, and she has alwas worked in Whitby onde, a nurse in tL emer- gency department, and her fam- ily live in Whitby. Lalonde says that the best aspect of being a nurse is the contact with people, and the excitement of emergency. A 66-year.old Oshawa man faces theft charges after two bot- ties of Grecian Formula and two steaks were shoplifted from a Whitby grocery store. Police say store security appre- hended the suspect outside the Miracle Food Mart (Dundas Street West) with the items, valued at $40.
