Whitby's parks and recreation department is holding the open house on Saturday, May 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the marina located on Front Street West. Representatives of several public agenices such as the police and tire departinents will be demonstrating equipment used in search and rescue operations and in enforcing water, safety reguilations. so, customs officiais from both Canada and the United States will be on hand to explain each country's rules governing boaters crossing the bordLer. This is the first year the department has held an open house at the marina. Recreation manager Bruce Taylor said a number of factors convinced staff that this would ho a worthwhile event to spon- sor. "We've got a lot of new clients down there and this prompts a lot of questions,' Taylor explained, referring to new speed limits within the harbour and the Town's new boat launching facilities. '<So we decided to get ail the people and resources we could and mnko the emphnsis on boat- ing safety for fishermen and pleasure boaters," hie said.
