Whitby Free Press, Wednesday, May 19, 1993, Page 25 Ford Probe offers fun and practicality By Glen Konorowski For me, fun is a big part of driving. Unfortunately, cars that are fun to drive are not aiways practical in day-to-day commut- ing and shopping at the mail. Soiving this problem for ail of us is the 1993 Probe. After test- ing this car, I was very im- pressed. The new, second gener- ation Probe is both fun, practical and easy to drive. The Probe comes ia two basic inodels, the base and the GT. The difference in the two cars is engine. I'he base models get the double overhead camn (DOHC) four-cylinder, while the GT gets the DOHC V6. I was lucky enough to* -have driven both modeis during the test period and I have to admit they are equaliy as good, depend- ing on your needs. Those who like the sporty looks of the Probe but don't need the V6 engine power, the base four-cylinder is more than enough. If you're like me and want the power, the V6 is capable of overtaking cars with much bigger engines. On both the GT and the base models, a five-speed manual transmission is standard. For those of you who choose not to shift*gears, the Probe îs offered with an optionai four-speed auto- matic. Even with the automatic, the Probe i5 stili a good perfor- mer. The only downside to the Probe is the cargo or hatch area. By its design, you have to iift up and over the rear section of the car to get anything in or out of the hatch. On muddy days this is is always covered in road grime. So if it's excitemerit you want in a car, but need the practicaiity of a four-seat car, the Probe i5 worthy of a good look. Marchand wili now be doing promotions for Owasco as part of the deal. - m m_- - .- a-a- ROPE A DEAL ON THE HARDEST WORKUN' PICKUPS ON THE RANGE.
