Each year students from grades il to OAC at Henry Street High School, Anderson CVI and Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Seconda Shoarchsnb their teachers to attend the nnewekrogram. The students are mostly- chosen fromn the history and political science classes at their schools. The students attend seminars on municipal government and on the role of the inayor and council; they attend a council meeting-,there is a panel discussion on the roles of the clerk's, f ire,p arks and recreation, personnel, planig public works, treasury and marketing and economic dveoment depart- ments. The students also study the way the counicil proceeds during meetings, alI the rules and procedures to follow, as well as learning about writing and submitting department head reports. ey then stage a znock council meeting at the end of the program. Students each assume a different role in the municipal government, and then act it out in the meeting. "We've had nothing but positive results from the students involved," says Bentley.
