Blair Hardy playýed solid defence at second base in support of the two-hit pitching by Ken Calway, whe struck eut sevea in five innings, and Jeremy Schett, whe pitched the final two in- nings. Hardy aIse had hi s second straight three-hit gante and drove in two runs. Josh Miller had three hits, ncluding twe doubles, and scered three runs. Calway, Schett, Mim Imesen, Jemzy Aronowicz, David Pamtlow and Chris Bulmer aise, had hits. "While we are playing weli, the true test wili corne in the next couple of weeks when we see some of the stronger teams in the league," said manager Dave Imeson. Under-lis off to strong start The Whitby under-li Malta Falcens kicked off the 1993 soccer season with a cenvincing 3-0 rend victory over Easst York recently. Scoring for the Falcons were Mfike Hall, Danny Caird and David Crabbe. The gaine was a selid two-way performance for the Whitby side. The teani had just completed a successful preseason with wins of 4-0 over Ajax, 9-3 over Scarborough Blues and a 3-3 tie with Pickering. Completing the '93 rester for the Falcons are Brett Allan, Ryan Bombino, Neil Hubley, Corey Kiender, Scott McWilliams, Andy Methven, Matthew Morgan, Derek Orr, Steve Perce, Alex Richardsen, Rebbie Reid, Adami Teather and Stuart Turpin. Whitby was te play a tournament in Guel ph on the Victoria Day weekend and open the home season today against Ajax at .Jeffery Park. had a littie bad Iuck in the qualifier beats. He stalled in the first heat and was forced into a puddle in the second heat. Ilis poor finishes in the qualifiers forced him te start near the back of the pack. But when the green flag flew in the third heat, Osier saw nothing but the front of the pack -- he nmade seemingly impossible moves look easy. Within five laps he was in second place, and closing on in the leader. With three laps te go, though, Osler's chain broke and he had te settie for sixth place. The Yamaha direct drive class saw a littie better luck for OsIer. He had te start last in this class also, but within two laps he was directly behind the leader. In another few laps he was around the leader and there was ne looking back. Osier went on te win the Yamaha direct drive class by approximately a straightaway over second place. Also racing with the Osler team is Jason Bradimore. This is Bradimore's first year in the National 2 cycle class. Bradimore started off his rookie' season on a winning note, taldng the first and third heat (the only one that counts), te go on and win the day. His sponsor is Parking Solutions of Whitby.'
