'Fancy dress'y part of parade By Cheryl-Ann Macean The theme for this year's lfair, 'Fun on the Farm,' will be reflected in the fair parade. The parade, expected to be a mile lon g wiIl last about an hour.ft will take place on Saturday, J une 5, starting at 10:30 a.m. This year the parade route will begin un North Street and Baldwin Street (Highway 12), proceed south on Baldwin before turning east onto Roebuck Street. The parade is thon marshaled east on Roebuck until it reaches Cassels Road where it wiIl thon travel east until it reaches Simncoe Street. Once the parade reaches Simcoe, it will go south te Winchester Road where it will go east until Anderson Street on which it wiIl travel south until it reaches the er il i bands and two majorette groups as welI as antique cars, animais, fire, ambulance and police officialg and vehicles. Music is being provided by the Scott McCormack Band, Brooklin/WhitbY Sea Cadets, Ulster Accordion Band, White Brass Band, Ontario Cadet Regiment Band, True Blue Flute Band, The' Outer Limits Majoretteà and the National Baton Corps. There will be competition among parade entrants and judges will pick nine winners -- three commercial winners an d six non-commercial winners. "We classify things like an organization," says Sharon MacKinnon, ch air of the parade committee. Each prize is $50 and a red rosette f irst-place ribbon. The only requirement for floats in the parade is that they are asked to represent the theme of the fair. The fancy dress competition, "is'a major part of the parade. "It was designed basically for children, but aduits are more than welcome to enter," says MacKinnon. There, are five categories in which the 'dressers' may enter: fancy dress frolic, best decorated manual transport and rider, best decorated battery-operated vehicles and rider, best decorated bike and rider and best decorated pet and handier. The contestants will judged in age classes of 5 and under, 6 to 8, 9 to 14, and 15 and over. Prizes are $6 for first, $5 for second and $4 for third.
