Everyone in tbe community is invited te a musical celebration of the 147th anniversary on Sunday, June 20 at 3 p.m. This year, the anniversaryî service will feature an organ recital by organist and choir director Kathy Rasamussen, with bymas and prayers. Last year, the church purchased a new twomanual, 12-rank pipe organ from the Casavant Organ Company in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Weatber permitting, the traditional strawberry tea reception will ho beld outdoors on the church grounds, followving the service. The church is located at the nortbeast corner of Brock Street South and Victoria Street East (the Baseline), one block south of the Whitby GO Train station. He was 54. Ho is survived by wife Carol Ridge, son Jack Donaldson of Georgia, sons Michael and Cra.ig, mother Zenia Paul and stop- father Reginald Paul of Peter- borough, and brothers Leslie and Ronald Donaldson of Peter- borough. ROY HA4RLAND (PABKER) SNMH A member of an old Wihitby family, Roy Harland (Parker) Smith died at Markham- Stouffville Hospital on June 3, 1993. Ho was 94. Ho lived until recently at 402 Palace St., Whitby and was a resident of Bestview Nursing Home, Markbam for the past few months. A son of the late James Smith and Alice Hannah Gibson, he was born at Whitby on Sept. 18, 1898. Mr. Smith was a member of the Charlie Chaplin's hockey tenm of the Whitby Town League in 1920, and was active in local sports. In the early 1920s, he mroved te the Windsor-Detroit area wbere ho worked as a sales clerk until hoe retired in 1957 and returned te Whitby. Keenly interested in local history, Mr. Smith served as curater of the Whitby i-storical Society's museum at Lynde House from 1972 te 1978. He Fnd bis wife were life members of the Whitby HI-storical Society. Mr. Smith was married te the former Margaret Muriel (Tody) Walters of Whitby at Windsor, Ont. on Nov. 22, 1924. Mrs. Smith died on May 31, 1982. Ho is survived by two sons, Dr. Donald H. Smith and bis wife Kris of Steuffville and Robert R. Smith of Windsor; grandchildren Patricia, Donald, Jennifer, Shelley, Robert, James and Camre and great-grandchildren Colin, Joshua, Brendan, Kevan, Jessica and Dylan. Mr. Smith was nt the W.C. REGINALD PERKINS Rginal Hy Perkins of Whitby died on June 6, 1993 at Whitby General Hospital. He was80Z He was born in Newton Abett, England on March 22, 1912, son of Harry and Daisy- May (Laniman) Perkins. Hoe married Lillian Margaret Russell on May 22, 1934 in Toronto. This year they celebra- ted their 59th wedding annivers- ary. An RR3 Claremont resident for many years, Mr. Perkins was retired after a career as a win- dow display àrtist. Ho was a member of the Toronto Sailing and Canoe Club. He is survived by bis wife, son Ronald and daughter Sheila, grandchildren Donald, Cathy ad Kitty and great-grandchil- dren Cheryl, David, Robyn and Christian. H1e rested at the W.C. May 29, 1993 marked the end of the Holy Year for Baha'is. The new wbeelchair accessible playground at the Grandview Centre will be opened (officially) on June 17. The public is invited to attend the event which coincides with the annual general meeting of Grandview. The playground was buiît with donated funds from individuals and organizations. The three major donors were Ronald McDonald Children's Charities of Canada, Harley Owners' Group (HOG) - Oshawa Chapter and the insmen Club of Oshawa. At 7:15 p.m., a lone maie suspect entered the Bank of Montreal located on the east side of the Oshawa Shoppinq Centre. The suspect approached the teller's booth an banded the victim a wrinkled, white piece of paper and then announced that it was a hold-up. The robber demanded the money from under the coin tray and also demanded the hold-up note before running from the batik. A bank employee saw the suspect get into a 1991 or newer-style GMC/Chev pickup truck with a dark blue top, light blue middle dark blue bottom with an eight-foot box with a four-inch Ly four-inch logo. The truck was last seen gon outhbound through the lot towards Elmgrove Avenue. Thiesuspect is described as male, white, aged 25, 6-ft., 190 lbs., witb a heavy build and short black hair. He wore silver-rimmed glasses, a black baseball bat, black leather jacket, faded blue jeans and black footwear. No weapon was seen or mentioned. A re-enactmnent of tbe crime will be sbown on CITY-TV (channel 57, cable 7) on Thursday, June 17 during the 6 and 10 p m. news. It will also be shown on CKVR-TV in Barrie and CHEX-TV in Peterborough on Friday, June 18, again during the news.
