How about when it's equipped with a turbo-charger. I spent some time with a Chevy four-wheel-drive (4WD) pickup equipped with the turbo- charged 6.5-litre V8 diesel and was very impressed. The extra boost of the turbo gives the pickup plenty of low- end power, with acceleration times almost equal to the gas- engine, 5.7-litre V8. Unlike the diesels in GM's past, this engine is backed by a five-year or 160,000 km. war- ranty. Power for the 6.5-litre turbo is 190 hp. and a whopping 380 lb.-ft. of torque at just 1, 700 rpm. On a trip te Montreal (500 km.) in a two-wheel drive, diesel- equipped Chevy pickup with a box cap, I averaged 9.5 Li100 km (30 mpg). Even though the test truck had the 60/40 split bonch seat, it was surprisingly comfortable. The test pickup had the new electronically-controlled, four- speed automatic transmission. It was one of the smoothest shifting units I have ever experienced in a truck, and as good or better than some comparable cars. Price for the Silverado equip- ped 3/4-ton 4WD is hefty, at around $30,000. Blazer: Nice fit, finish »-- Glen Konorowski Ever since its introduction, I have loved' the looks of Chevy's S-10 Blazer. This spring I had the pleasure to use a four-door Blazer as the test bod for many of the features I write. Spending almost five months with the vehicle, I have really come to know it well. Although a little dated in styl- ing, the Blazer is stilI attractive with this year's colour schemes. Unlike many of the domestics of the past, fit and finish of the Blazer were tep notch. Inside, the Blazer was equip- ped with a complete leather interior, which cleaned up well after abuse from three active children. The outside-mounted spare tire allows for plenty of. cargo spaoe in the rear. This spaoe almost doubles with the rear seat folded down. Price of the fully-loaded Blazer was around the $26,000 range.
