Organization (ISO) 9000 training. Canadian companies registered to the ISO 9000 standard have already expressed benefits for both national and international business opportunities. The obvious benefit has been ensuring business with the European community. Less obvious has been the status registration label used in product marketing; the world-wide recognition of the standard and listing in directories of international registered suppliers. Additional benefits are improved productivity, competi- tiveness, reduced costs qn,' even elimination of costly and time-consunung multiple audits by prospective customers. As more levels of government demand that suppliers are registered, or multi-nationals require Canadian subsidiaries be registered, the understanding of IS0 9000 policy and procedures has become a critical part of the complete registration process. ISO 9000, 'the Global Quality Standard, was introduced in 1987 by the International Standards Organization (ISO) based in Geneva, Switzerland in conjunction with the European Community for Standardization. Today more than 90 countries have adopted the standards, and with thse advent of the global marketplace, ISO 9000 is taking. the Iead as the global quality standard. QMI is an internationally recognized, independent third- party auditing authority for quality systeins registrations since 1979.
