Stephen Pacholzuk dethroned teammato Shayne Bayford as nien's champion as Pacholzuk won freestyle and was second in figures te, win the cornbined. Bayford was second in free- style and fourth in figures te, finish second overaîl while Jef- frey Kidd, aise from the Whitbv clu b, was third in figures ana fourth in freestyle te, finish third overali. ]Rebeeca Woodhouse of the Whitby club was first in figures and freestyle te win the sopho- more ladies championship and she was first in open ladies J'eénnifer Mulgrew was second in senior ladies figures and Pia Schmidt-Hansen was second in sophomere ladies freestyle. Erin Scudds was feurth overal in sophomore after a fifth-place finish in figures and seventh in freestyle. Stacey Miller was third overal in elementary girls after a fourth in both figures and freestyle. 8h. was aise fourth in elementary girls loops. Pachol>zuk, Bayford Kidd and Mulgrew, will comnpete ini the world chanipionships in Bor- deaux, France in October. UnderlO1s win consolation Whitby's under-lO rep soccer squad brought home their first hardware of the season, defeating Chinguacousy on penalty kicks in the consolation final at the Kitchener International Tourna- ment on the weekend. The Whitby side, currently unheaten at the top?. of the Central Soccer League s premier division, got off to a slow start in their opening gamne on Saturday, against hosts Kitchener Colts, falling behind bytwo early goals. Michael Stefanazzi and Robert Richards levelled the score before half-timne but Kitchener again went ahead midway through the second half. The referee denied the visitera a penalty when Michael Stefannazzi was elbowed in the back while in scoring poition, and the score remained at 3-2 te the home side. The second preliminary game saw Whitby outclass. Markharn Lightning, winning 5-0 on goals frono Thomas Shaw, Stuart Thomson, Stefannazzi, Curtis Emo and Robert Richards. A win against a good Oakville Strikers -side was required te ensure a semi-final spot for Whitby, and an excellent teani performance earned a 4-0 victery. First-half goals . from Stefanazzi, with twe, and Emo and a superb solo effort from Richards in the second haîf went unanswered as Oakville were swept aside. Woodbridge was WhitbY's opponent in Sunday's semni-final. After soaking up some pressure early on, Witby dominated the remainder of the flrst half but failed te cash in on a number of excellent scoring opportunities before Thomson nettedfrom close in. Woodbridge camne back strongly during the second half, scoring twice te edge Whitby eut of the final in which Woodbridge went on te defeat Kitchener colts. The consolation final between Whitby and Chinguacousy turned inte a marathon affair with neither side finding the net even after extra time. The penalty kick decider saw Emo, Thomson, Gordon Kerr and Mark Morrison give Whitby a 4-2 consolation championship win. Other teai members include Roy Nichols, Shawn Simees, Sasha Kosanovic, Paul Gruchala, marie Cupelli and Daniel Miragliotta.
