Craig Gireen, who recently received a national award of valour in Winnipeg from the transportation industry, is one of nine people recommended for the bravery awards, given for acts of bravery in hazardous circum- stances. On Nov. 4, on Highway 401 near Ajax' Green resuced a mar. from a burnin g truck. Green, 31, was driving on the highway when the truck swerved in front of hlm, hit two other vehicles, flipped over repeatedly, landed on its side and burst into flames. He immediately ran to help the dazed driver, breaking the windshield with a metal bar and pulling the windshield out with bis bare hands. Aware that the truck was sur- rounded by gas and that flames were lickin g at the cab, Green pulled the driver frgm the vehi- cie and dragged him to safety. Green will receive his award at a formai presentation ceremony in Ottawa, the date not yet announced. In addition to the fine reci- p lents of medals of bravery, a Toronto man will receive a star of courage for acts of conspicuous courage mn circumstances of great peril. Green, a CP employee at the Agincourt Yard in Scarborougfh, had earlier this year received aý p laque at the National Transpor- tation Week breakfast of cham- pionships awards in Toronto after he had been honoured in Winnipeg.
