The action begins on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 P.m. when an open casting will ho heid for '7 Stonies' by Morris Panych. Diector, Brad Carson has selected a wise and witty Canadian comedy that won six Jessie awaids in Vancouvex>s 1990 theatre season. As a man prepares to, jump from the seventh-storey window, ledge of an apartment building, ho can't escape the stories of the people who live there. Their impact on bis plans leads to an unexpected ending. '7 Stories' equires a large and cosmopolitan cast of 17. Included aie roles for women from age 20 te 80, for men from age 20 to 60, as weil as four very short parts that would ho ideal for first-time actors. On Friday, Aug. 27, the anti- ' Doris McCarthy: Feast of Incarnation' is under-way at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and continues until Oct. 17. The etrospective exhibition of the paintings of McCarthy, one of Canada's foremost landscape painters, examines the unique expression in ber work. The exhibition includes 46 paintinge executed from 1929 to 1989. McCarthy's subjecta range from the villages of the Gaspé and Newfoundfland te, the rugged topography of the Aberta Badiands and the Canadian Arctic, which she first visited in 1972. All McCatby's work reveais ber ability te croate a unique and very special "sense of place." Born in Calgaiy in 1910, McCarthy'F -areer as an artist spans a period of over 60 yeais. The late 1920s found ber studying at the Ontario College of Art. In addition, she pumsued a year of study in London, England prior to a distinguished 40-year career teaching at Toronto's Central Technical School. In 1986, she was appointed - a Member of the Order of Canada.
