The plan had been approved bMunicipal Affaira Minster Ed Pxiip late last month, but de=ais were kept quiet until miniatr officiaIs could brief Dur- hem poiticians and staff. Uxbridge Mayor Gerri-Lynn O'Connor welcamed the minis- ter's approval at last week's regioal council meeting. O'Connor, chair of council's elIanning committee, said Dur- am had retained about U97 per cent-" of what it had proposed. Council adoptad the plan in 1991 ta replace the existing 1976 document, but provincial con- cerne about certain aspects of the plan resulted in the two-year delay for approval. OConnor described the brief- ing session wvith ministry staff as "one of the best meetings" she has attended since becoming -a municipal councillor.
