Whitby qualified fior the final with a well-played 3-0 victory over Barrie, a hard-fought 2-1 defeat at the banda of Burlington Bruina, and a come-from-behind 2-2 tie with Goulding Park. Scoring for Whitby in the Barre gaine were Ryan MacAurthur, Ryan Babcock and Matt Foran with assista going to Derek Ackford, Mike Orviss and Brant Flaherty. Evaxi Kitainura earned the shutout, stopping 15 shots. Burlington jumped out to an early 1-O lead ucoring on one of four breakaways in Whitby's second gaine. Andre Harding scored from the point, assisted by Paul Heindrick. Scott Thompson kept the door closed until late in the third period when Burlington ecored on a two on one to eke out the victory. In the third gaine Whitby fought back with two lato third period goals to tie Goulding Park 2-2. This allowed Whitby to advance to the final due to a better goal differential than either Burlington or Goulding Park. Game two against Stoney Creek ended in a 1-1 tie, the lone Whitby goal scored by Ryan Matthews, assisted by Taylor and Kubrynski. Game three against Welland resulted in a 2-O victory, the shutout earned by Joel Whitby minor atom selects had two wins before loing the chamnpionship gaine at a hockey tournament over the Christmas break. Whitby first defeated Cedar FEUl 6-O. Sean Braeekin racked up five goals on asss froin Elliott Fitzsimmnons, Kurtis Lindeil, Ryan McMichaël, Dami Amurawaiye and Michael Lever. In the playoff series againat Barrie, VonEschscholtz netted two goals but Barrie won 4-2. Assiste went to Tom BFicica, Gawne and Ian Witruk. Whitby won 4-2 in the consolation final against Stoney Creek. Goal-scorers were Kubrynsld, Matthews, Verkuyl and Ricica, with assiste froin Nathan Cotter, Farrow, Witruk, Taylor and Matthews. There was superb goaltending from Julien Owen and Joel Whitmarah. on an assist frein Amurawaiye, McMichasl bad an a"set, and Grahamn finished the scoring with an unassisted goal with 23 seconds left. In the championship gaine, Whitby met Markhazn at Centennial Arena. In a close gaine, Whitby started the scoring in the first period when Rob Muir scored on an assist froin Grahamn. Markham then retaliated with two goals in the first that stood up for the remainder of the gaine. Whitby settled fr second place in the A division.
