In October 1992 at the Brooklin arena, during some locker roomn banter late after a hockey game featuring some of Whitby's under-rated oldtimers, Dennis Branton, maintenance director for Trafalgar Castie School, asked John Vickery if he was familiar with the new energy-efficient lighting tech- nology being promoted by Ontario Hydro. When John said he was, a meeting was held to inform Dennis of the pluses and minuses of the program. With a system in neeci 0f replacement, the school decided to take advantage of the Ontario Hydro incentive program and accepted quotations for the job. Trafalgar is a historical facility, constantly being upgraded to compete in not only a regional but, more oflen, a world market. It requires co-operation, pa- tience and ongoing discussion to ensure that installations do flot interfere with any of the existing architecture. It ail added up to a formidable project. Upon completion, representatives of the Ontario Hydro incentive programn suggested that this particular project b. submitted to the PowerSavers' awards for assessment. Vickery Electric thanks ail parties involveci for their support in this very special project. Vckery Electric is now installing the new technology at Whtby General Hospital. Once again, Vickery faces a difficult circumstance in one of Whitby's Most architecturally-intriguing institutions. Whitby General Hospital management also asked that any requireci acditional em- ployment take place over the Christmas hoiidays. Both projects are the resuit of local business input. For Vickery.
