Students from Anderson CVI and two high schools from eas- tern Ontario will match their courtroom Akills on Saturdlay, March 26 in round two of the annual mock trial program. Ini the program, sponsored by the Canadian Bar Association- Onitario, students will stage the murder trial of Her Majesty The Queen v. Kimbaîl. They will argue the case of noted brain surgeon and Har- yard Medical School graudate, Dr. Richard Kimbaîl who has been charged with the murder of bis wife. Signs of spring are indicating a long, cold winter is almost behind us, bringing us closer to occupancy in Durham's newest high school, Sinclair Secondary, currently under construction on Taunton Road at Anderson Street. Staff are hopeful that by mid- to late June offices and classrooms will be ready for the move, Co begin the set-up for what promises te be an exciting first year. But who will be the occupants of this 190,000 square foot facility? By early April, the annouricement will b. made. Sinclair, the home of the No Name, will take on a new identiity, with school colours and a distinguishing logo that will promote our teams not only on the walls of the school gym, but throughout the Whitby community as Sinclair students r compete on the fields, ini the pool, on the. ioe -- wherever Sinclair students want to demonstrate their skills and expertise. School sportswear will be available to students through the school store as early as late August -- the latest in plaid boxers, hats, Ta and sweats. Recently joining the skeletal staff of Sinclair is AI Bender, head of technological studies. AI is workcing wvith staff te develop the hands-on umita that will make up the math-science- technology package of the integrated curriculum. Students will experience learning -- learning by experience. Imagine yourself building that bridge, having plotted the angles and mani- pu1ated the geoenetric concepts in your math classes. Scientific applications will test the bridge for strength and load capacities. Students will have oppSrtuflities in communications techinologies by. extending the classroomn experience te acces the multi -media studios located, in the board's education centre, immediately attached te tthe school. The latest versions of computer software and plenty of access te computers either in the laba or thrughout the school will intrigue even the moet reluctant learner. The. math-science- technoboff experience will expose students to a wide range of technologies, in preparation for the real world. Board to hold ' parent'9 conterence A conference for parents has been organized by the Durham Board of Education on Saturday, April 9 at AjaxHigh Sehool. 'Workshops will focus on 'Edu- cation Today,' 'Parenting SkiIIs' and 'Effective School Advisor Committees,' and there will be displays by area service agencies ndcompanies. One workshop will inelude a presentation about full-day, every-other-day kindergarten recently adopted by the boarâ and to start at schools in Sep- tember. 'Meeti"ng' workshop offered A 'Meeting Sav workshop will ho held at Durham College on Saturday, March 26. The winners advance to the round three semi-finals in Toronto on the morning of Law Day, Thursday, April 14. Rund four, the final match, takes place in Toronto on the afternoon of Law Day.
