Boxing show h a The Motor City Boxing Club will host a night of bouts on Saturday, May 14 at the Armouries in downtown Oshawa. Bouts will include a rematch between Motor City's Les Bou- chard and Peterboroughs Jay Cochrane in the middleweight division. Cochrane won a close decision over Bouchard before more than 1,400 people at a show in Peter- borough over the weekend. Encouraged by the turnout for the Peterborough event, Motor City club instructor and coor- dinator Don Nelson is hoping that 400 people will attend the Ma114 show. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and boxing will begin between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for aduits, $5 for kids. The night willi also include the first bouts by members of the recently forrned Motor City club. Ban dy Barden 12 is one of those tentativel; sceduled to make their debuts. Nelson is inviting boxers from clubs in Buffalo, N.Y., Ajax, Trenton and Toronto to partici- pate. Basketball tournainent planned The Durham Region YMCA is hosting the first annual women's basketball tournament April 15 and 16. The YMCA is looking for six teams with a maimum 10 people on each team. The tournainent will be held at Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary Sehool in Whitby. The cost is $200 per team whichis to bepaid bythe team captain. The tournament will be round-robin format with each teami assured two gaines.
