Exidsting programs at both Kinark and Frontenac wiIl continue as usuai. The resuit of many months of planning by several community agencies and governiment mninistries, the restructuring was recommended in a recent study of children's mental health services in Durhamn. Fundamental changes te the service structure were reconi- rnended by the Children's Services Council and approved by the Ministry of Cuxnmunity and Social Services. The board and staff of Durham House, Frontenanc and Kinark began the transitional process in September 1993. Staff of Durhamn buse will become employees of either K-inark or Frontenac. Active clients, and families on the Durham House waiting list, are being advised of the administrative changes by letter and through conversations with their child's prograrn worker. Also effective April 8 was a new referral protocol for children over and under age 12. Children under 12 requiring mental health services should be referred to Kinark. Youth aged 12 and over are to be referred to Frontenac. The need for transferring clients as their needs and ages changre will be considerably reduced. The restructuring will Pro*de simpler access te services and increased continuity of care. The Children's Services Council says the rostructuzing will improve service delivery to children and families and resuit in a more effective and efficient use of resources.
