Whitby played its first game of the North York semi-finals against Leaside on April 14 aller a two-week layoff and skated te a 2-2 tie. The tearn was very siuggish throughout the game but still managed te fie the gaine on goals by Ryan Meaney and Stefan Hass. Kyle Ruttan, Mike obyovich, Ryan Robb and Mfike Astalos assisted on the goals. In the second gaine, Whitby camne out stronger and skated to a 3-0 win on two goals by David Besco and one by Gary Kitamura. Sean Holmes (two), Mfike Liske, Astalos and Hass assisted on the goals. Whitby only needed a win or a fie on Monda>' te advance te the finals (result not known at press time). In the Shamrock tournament on April 16, Wbitby played Bramnpton in the first game and skated te a 4-2 win. Goal-scorers were Meaney (two), Kobrynovich and Nicholas Mfiche. Assistîng on the goals were Ruttan (two), Kobrynovîcli Holmes, iske and Ryan Harris. Ini the second gaine on Sunday, Whitby skated te a 5-0 win over Parkwoods. Scoing for Whitby were Holmes, KItamura, Astalos, Meaney and Liske. Assisting on the goals were Ryan Mendes (two), Besco (two), Kitamura, Hass and Kobrynovicli. Michael Thornton and Adam Rinaldi, goalterders, recorded the shutout on Sunday. The sei-final gaine of the Shaznrock will be played on Saturday, April 23 against Peterborýpugh St. James. Students grap pie Ontario tities Two wrestlers from Palmer- ston Public School won gold medals at the provincial wres- thing championships April 16 in Arthur, Ont. Bnett White-Finkle was first in the 35.4-kIlogram class in the kids (ages il and 12) class. Stu Derbyshire was first in the kids' 95. 1-"kilograni class. Other Palmerston wrestlers, also com peting as members of the Dur harn X-L's Wrestling Club, won silver and bronze. Nick Mancuso won silver in the novice (ages 9 and 10) 30.8kg class and Noah Cl-ark won bronze in the novioe 26.2kg class. Winning bronze were Josh Hughes in the kids' 39.5k- class, Neil Reading in the kids' 40.8kg class Robent White in the kids' 37.9kg class and Malcolm MacLea in the kids' 39kg class. Ian McKenzie of Th omton Public School won a sîlver medal in the 37.7kg class for kids. Macbea had previously won a bronze at theH agersville Wres- tling Festival on Apnil 9. Also at Hagersville, Sean Mar- tin of E.A. Fairman won gold ini the bantam (ages 13 and 14) class and Pat Rossi of Fairmnan won silver in bantam. Some of the Whitby wrestlers are expected to attend the Canada East championships April 29 and 30 in embroke, Ont. Anderson cvrs Adrian Wood- ley and Andrew Channer each won two god medals at the 62nd Mehock RElays in Mansfield, Ohio April 15 and 16. And despite being the only the two competitors fromn Anderson, they carried the sehool te a second-place finish overail in the team competition. Both OnÎtario high school champions, they' actualiy tied for first in the tri ple jump at the Mehock event that saw competi- tors from 140 hii h schools froni seven states and Canada. Each jumped 47 feet, 5.25 in- cimes (14.46 metres) to, establish and share a new meet record. The next day, Channer won the goid medal in the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 9.5 inches (7.25 metres). Woodley won the 110-metre hurdies in a tume of 13.7 seconds, one-tenth of a second slower than the meet record. 2earn judo gold Maria Kristanas and Nick R~b nko of the Kiichi-Sai Judo C bin Whitby each won gold4 at the Eastern Canadian champion- ships in Edmondston, N.B. on Saturday. Kristanas, 15, was first in blue beit, minus 44-kilograni weight class. Rybenko, 12, was first in green belt, minus 43kg. Dan Gribben, club operator and an instructor, was second in minus 95kg for second-degree black beit. Natasha Monkm an, 13, a brown belt, was third in minus 48kg for green-blue-brown-black beit. Another club member, Keyr O'Hara, 16, won gold in black boit minus 65kg at the Rocky Mountain International Judo Championship in Calgary Apnil 2. The Kiichi-Sai club's open tournament will bo held April 30 at Durham College.
