Instead, Buffett is expected to soon announoe that she will be a candidate for the Progressive Conservative nomination in the provincial riding of Durhamn Centre. Although Buffett was not prared to confirmn that she wlseek the Tory nod in the riding now held by New Democrat Druxnmond White The Free Press has learned that Buffett has a campaign team in place. Local Conservatives have recently been contacted by Buffett workers trying to drum up support for a poteritial nomination bid. Buffett, who has been riding association president for the past four years, said the party is tryng , increase its mexner.hp base in the riding. But she would not discuss her own plans at this time. "I will be making an announcement shortly to clarify it," said Buffett. '1i will be callingr a pres conference because I want to be fair to everyone," she said. Buffett, 43, is the owner of The Benefits Group, an einployee and pension consulting firm. She represented the centre ward on Town concil from 1988 until ber unsuccessful mayoralty bid three years ago. >No date has been set for a nomination meeting, Buffett said. Meanwhile, Whitby lawyer Jim Flaherty, Tory candidate in the 1990 election, is also considering runriing for. the nomination. An Oshawa lawyer, Furlong was acclaimed as Liberal candidate at a nomination meeting last month. He served as M&PP from 1987 until hie defeat by White in the NDP sweep four years ago.
