Boundary review, increased Town role wanted Whitby ion ess club of the year The Whitby Lioness Club received four awards at the district A-16 iÀons and iÀoness convention in Peterborough April 22 to 24. The club finished first axnong 18 clubs in the district to earn the Club of the Year Award. Whitby iÀoness achieved the most overail points in organization and dedication ta the goals and ideas of Lionism. For best oustanding service effort, the club won the Jim Dicemnan Service Award. The service involved several projects for disabled and shut-,in seniors. The Anne Shearer Participation Award was presented for excellence in communîty service, fund-raising, leadership and participation in inter-club events. The Whitby Lioness' parade float captured the best Lioness overali parade entry. The float emphasized the parade theme Conquering World Blindnese, plus community service. are about 400 businesses within the DRIA boundaries. A decision on the DRIA budget for 1994 had been postponed by Town council members until the results of the questionaire were available. There was also no clear con- sensus on the. frequency of pro- motions: 20 per cent said pro- motions shouldbe ongoing, 28 per cent said they should be monthly, 18 per cent wanted four per year and 13 per cent every two months. 0f the 148 responding to what promotions they would like ta, see, 118 wanted the Christmas promotion, 80 wanted bath the sidewalk sale and Easter pro- motion and 79 wanted the Canada Day promotion. Heritage Day was favoured b 67, Mothers Day by 60, Hal- lowýeen 54, Valentine's 51 and Thanksgiving 48. There were fewer votes for several other events. While most respondents weren't happy with. parking arrangements, 44 p>er cent said the DBIA shouldn t b. respon- sible for establishing parkng policies (39. pe' ' cent said they should b.) and 56per cent said the DBIA shouldn t b. respon- sible for enforcing prking poli- cies (25 per cent dUd 20 per cent had no opinion). 17»yearmold. faces charges.i A Whitby youth was charged after three cars parked at homes on Milîstane- Crescent were broken into Thursday evening.
