Given the n~ of entries and good spectator turnouts for both nights -- despite rain on Saturday night last year -- the, bang-up event will again be held twice at this year's fair. MnWerry, chair of last year's and this year's demo derby committee, says tat before last year one night couldn't accommodate ail those who wanted to enter. Another bonus from adding.a Thureday night event would b. bigger crowde at the fair. 'It was a good crowd for a Thursday night" h. says of Iast year's derby. Thirty entries will b. accepted each night. On Thursday night, competitors will b. Brooklin and Whitby area residents. On Saturday night, entries are fromn outaide the local area -- Oshawa, Peterborough, for example, and some from farther away. The derby is held oit>t'B. racetrack, in a mud spaoe of 45 by 200 feet. Eligible vehicles are any American-made hardtop car or station wagon -- except Chrysler Imperials and New Yorkers. Other requiements for vehicles entered are removal of the gas tank, to b. replaced by a three-gallon steel tank securely fastened; removal of ail glass, tail light and chrome mouldings; drivers can't hit the drivers' doors directly. Competitors must aiso maintain contact. If a. vehicie stalls, the driver must have the vehicie running and mobile again within 30 seconds, or face disqualification. Thrili Show Professionals Ltd. will again provide judges for the event. The top two in each heat and the overali winner wil win cash primes. A total of $800 will b. awarded. The entry fee is $22.
