Jason Jankowski red Warriors with five goals and one assist. Steve Hfiscox fired a goal and added a heiper while Jason Chartier and Tr-evor Najbor rounded out the scoring. Ryan and Bt-ad Ford, Brad Cann and Zach Edgar ail assisted. Drew McCullough set up two mat-kers. Warriors opened the tournaxnent by besting the host Scarborough Saints 6-4. Ryan Ford contributed three goals, Jason Jarikowski scored two and a hel er and both Tom Peterson and Ra.b Fodor set up three. pRohan Mehta added one marker. Warricirs advanced to the playoff round by beating Midland 10-6. Fodorls playmaking led the. way with four assiste. Jankowski scored twice and added an assist. Peterson and Mehta each scored onoe, and set up two. Brian Cullen bulged the twine twice while Ryn Ford and Nick Peacock each had a goal and assist. PhotO bY JeFOMY Dresar, Whltby Free Press Falcons reach semi.nfinals Under rainy skies on May 24, Whitby Malta Faicons under-12 soccer teain opened the soccer season with a 5-2 win agaînst Aj4x. Scoing for WItby were Robbie Reid (two), Andy Methven, Matthew Morgan and David Crabbe. The second game of the season was played on May 31 at Jack Wilson Park, the team's home field. Whitby camne on top by beating visiting East York by a score of 4-2. Goalscorers for Falcons were Alex Richardson, Ryan Patterson, Morgan and Crabbe. The first loss in regular leaglue play came on June 1 when a strong Wexford side defeated Falcons 4-1. The lone Whitby goal came from Methven. At the Royal City International Soccer Tournament in Guelph on the weekend of May 28-29, Falcons went as far as the semi-finals. In the first game of the day Whitby>s single .goal was pumped in by Mike Hall, in a 2-1 loss to Burlington. The tiéam picked up the pace in the second gae trouncing Waterloo United by a score of 11-1. Reid (three),' Ryan Bombino (three), Methven (th-ree), Patterson and Hall scored for Whitby. The third gaine was also a strong showing for Falcons when they beat London United 7-0. Points in that game were racked up by Reid (two), Crabbe (two), Stuart Turpin, Methven and Hall. The team advanced to the. semi finals where they iost 6-1 to their nemesis (Jhinguacousy. Reid scored for Falcons. Other members of the teain are Derek Orr, Adam Teather, Corey Kiender, Nick Kolobutin, Daniel Brown, Brett Allan and keeper Neil Hubley. The team is coached by Stan Bombino and Jack Methven, managed by Steve Crabbe, and sponsored by the Maltese Social Club. Warriors' march te the championship final was thwarted by Scarborough 9-6. Mehta led the team with a goal and two assists and Peterson set up three. Cann fired two,, and single markers were credited to Cuilen, Chartier and Jankowski. Blanked in fina The Whitby under-lO rep soccer team, sponsored by Domino's Pizza and Golden Griddle, lost in the final of the Royal City tournament May 27 and 28 in Guelph. Wins against Oakvllle and Ajax on goals &com Bryan MacKinnon (three), Mike Bowerman (four), Ciaran Thompson (two), Tyer Mattin and Mike Sheehan, and only one loss, ta North Mississauga, put the. team into the semi-finals againet Pickering. Goals from Eamon Sommerville and Bowerrnan forced extra tine, a shootout and finally sudden-death penalty kicks before Thompson cinched the berth in the final against a strong Niagara Falls team. Keeper Bian Crawford and the Witby defensive line of Là ianieddox, Gavin McCrorie and John Baker. along with some excellent man-to-man marking by Mike Denning, kep the game interesting and the score tied until midway through the second haîf when the tough schedule took its toli and Niara won 4-0. League action on May 31 saw Whitby die Pickering 1-1 on a Bowerman goal, with most valuabie player honours going ta sweeper Sommet-ville. The powerful Oshawa Blue Knights midget team won the al-Ontaro field lacrosse titie with easy ins over Essex and St. Cathaines on Sunday in Burlington. Oshawa had won the round- robin to advance directly to the semi-finals in which they defea- ted Essex 16-5. The final was also a mismatch as Oshawa defeated St. Cath- arines 16-4. In the two games, Zac Aitken had eight goals, Ga'vin Prout five goals, Bon Death four, Marty OMrien, Pat Jones, Steve Death and Brent Lazary three each.
