Page 24, Whitby Fre press. Weckiesday, June 29, 1994 Under-14s ride the wind to victory Whitby Terriers won the championship of an under-14 soccer tournament in Caledon Junîe 25-26. Just as in the semi-final, Whitby trailed at haif-time in the final but rode the wind te victory in the second haif. Whitby played Moredale in the charnpionshi p, and Moredale assumed a 1-0 lead after one haif. But Whitby was unstoppable with the wins at their bac ks inn the second haîf. Jim Roufos set Up Chris Couti for the tying goal, then Terry Lawrenson got the winner when hee beaded a corner kick by Graham MacLean. Scott Adam son found the feet of MacLean with a throu h bal and Macean deposited thle bal behind the startled goaltender. For the remaining 20 minutes, Whitby showed its defensive pro- wess. Cresswell Nyack, Dave Caughell, Justin Groden, Matt MeGrady, Ryan Evelyn, Robbie Adams, Brent Desmit, David Wishart, Derek Pollock and goal- tender Adrian James frustrated their opponents to the final whis- tie. Whitby had defeated Moredale 7-3 in their first game as Macean scored four goals. Adams, Roufos and Desmit also scored. Bs falin final The Whitby novice B lacrosse teain, sponsored by Roberts-Nieuwendyk, lost in the championship final of the Guelph/Royal City lacrosse tournament over the weekend. In round-robin play, Whitby beat Kitchener/Waterloo Hl by a score of 11-1, and then beat London 6-0. In the ehanipionship game, Whitby met Orangeville, and weeeated by a score of 13-3. Whitby's leading scorer in the tournament was Justin Sawyer with five goals. Eric Collins, Derek McTeague and Kyle Musselman each scored three goals, ike Crystal scored two goals, and Nicholas MacKînnon, Jared Millar, Erik Petersen and John Pimm each scored a goal. Sean Cuthbertson and Kyle Wagar shared goaltending duties in the shutout win over London. Whitby loSt in the silver final of the Brampton lacrosse tournament June 10-12. In round-robin play, Whitby lost to Peterborough II by a score of 5-3, beat Spart.an 7-4, and lost to Beaches 7-4. In the silver chamnionship gaine, Whitby lost to Brampton 13-4. Whitby's Ieading scorer in the tournament was Ian Brook with four goals. Collins and Mllar each scored three goals, MeTeague and Pimm scored two goals each and Crystal, Musselmasn, Petersen and Sawyer each scored a goal. 2wins for# Why's niosquito select teain #2 is off to a fast start in the South Durhamn Select, Baseball League with hack-to-back wins over other Whitby teams. In the first encounter Whitby #2 took on Whitby #3 and ernerged with a hard-earned 3-2 win. Pitchers Brian Donnelly and Lucas Naylor shared the bulk of the work and they were relieved by Ryan Matthews and Michael Wynistorf in the seventh inning. Whitby #2 built up a 2-0 lead until Whitby #3 cut the lead with a run in the bottom of the third inning. The score remained 2-1 until the seventh inning when both teains scored singletons for the 3-2 final score. Matt Hircock, Dan Deluca and Mfike Forbes scattered eight bits over the seven innings in a l9sing effort for Whitby #3.
