Photo by Mark Reesor, Whlty Free Press Whitb The Oshawa-Whitby Fair, to, be held July 21-24, is now part of the motocross dirt bike circuit. In addition te the many other events and displa ys, motocross races will be held on Sunday morning, July 24. Heat winners frem the July 21 and 23 demolition derbies will meet in the chanipionships on Sunday afternoon. Saturday and Sunday will see many herse cempetitions featur- ing Arabians and saddle herses in full regalia. There is competition between Morgs, hackneys readsters and draft ponies while heavy and commercial horse competitions highlight the massive Clydes- dales, Percherons, Belgians and Shires. The herse pull, a crowd favourite, will be on Saturday evening. _ * Brass band gives park concerts The Whitby Brass Band will perform at three more 'Summer Concerts in the Park.! The band, conducted by Roland Hill with assistant Phil Crossley, will perform Thursdays, 7:30 p.m., on July 21, Aug. 4 and 18 at Rota, Park, Brock Street South, Whitby. Admission is free. Bring a lawnchair. 'y ï The midway will be larger this arl with thie addition of more autrides to complement the lese violent rides for young chul- dren. The Bavarian Garden is pen ail four days and features Mike Presten's laser karaoke on Satur- day evening. There will also be free oxen rides, radio-controlled helicopter demonstrations, a large antique buggy and cutter display, minia- ture horses, cattie display, 4H club display, concessions, Satur- day afternoon mud bog races, a pet show on Sunday and antique/ coflectable car show with more than 100 vehicles. . The fair is now in its 126th year. Located off Garrard Road, jWs north of Conlin Road in hitby, the fair begn as the Whitby AgricuturaIFPar-in 1868 and moved to Alexîmdra Park in Oshawa in 1921< where it was held for 52 yearb... Forced te move due te the expansion of Oshawa, General Hospital in 1974, the fair temn- porarily operated from the Brooklin fairgrounds in 1977 and then to its current location. The fair is open Thursday and Friday; 6 p.m. te midnight, Saturday from 9 a.m. te mnid- night, Sunday from 9 a.m. te 5 p.M.
