The barberae striped pol and the three balle of the pawnbreker are among those stili wellknown. Few people remnember that pharmnacists used brightly coloured glass globes, called "show globes," but a pair of parfectly preserved ones can always be seen at the Brooklin Pharmnacy. Made of clear glass filled with coloured water, one red and oe blue, the globes are held in ornate, chromed metal holders and bang from the wall by short chains. They have been behind the dispensing counter sinca the mid-1960s, when pharmacist Bill Burgess left Toronto te, set up shop here and brought them with him. Burgess, second in lino of three-generation pharmaciets (hie daughter Peggy Frankovich carnies on the tradition) got hie start at hie father'e drugstore at Bloor and Sherbourne streete in Toronto. The eIder Burgess had been a pharmaciet since 1918; the store was named Hooper's for founder Edward Hooper who had set it up at another Toronto location in 1834.
